We in the European e-infrastructure


 

In 2015 the DNDIASB node created as the Ukrainian part of the European Grid Infrastructure (EGI)

 

The experts of the State Research Institute of Automated Systems in Construction (member of our Association) led by academician Academy of Construction Ukraine, prof. Y. Slobodyan created DNDIASB Grid node and the virtual organization «Information Technology in Constructionі» in ukrainian national Grid to support research life cycle of construction projects. To participate in it are welcome:

- project participants developmentof grid technologies in construction;

- experts in the field of construction, using grid resources to solve applied problems;

-grid developers building applications.

Grid node DNDIASB integrated as part of Ukrainian, the largest e-infrastructure in the world - European Grid Infrastructure (EGI), which brings together more than 22,000 researchers from around the world. Grid node available DNDIASB and is monitored at the appropriate siteі EGI.

 

Information on EGI

EGI (Europe Grid Infractructure) combines virtual community of researchers and providers of resources (National Grid initiatives CERN, EMBL, etc.). EGI works in collaboration with a wide range of IT-specialists and contributes to many projects.

Virtual organizations are groups of researchers with similar research interests and requirements, which are able to work together with other members, regardless of geographic location. EGI currently has more than 200 virtual organizations with diverse interests:Earth sciences, computer sciences, mathematics, natural sciences, high-energy physics, etc. Infrastructure European Network (EGI) has more than 530 000 logical processors, 200 PentaBayt space and capacity for research and innovation in Europe.  The infrastructure provides high bandwidth capabilities of cloud computing and for storage data.

Resources provided more than 350 resource centers that are geographically distributed across 56 countries in Europe, Asia Pacific, Canada and Latin America.

 

Information on grid technologies

Grid computing (Eng. Grid Computing) - the type of computer system (network) of parallel distributed computing, that through consistent, open and standardized environment universal hardware and software infrastructure enables flexible, safe and coordinated separation, selection and accumulation of geographically distributed "autonomous" resources depending on their availability in real time ,ntegrates disparate geographically separated computers into a single geographically distributed information-computing system.

Grid network - just a new model of computing. Network offers the possibility to perform complex calculations using many groups of computers. Model A virtual machine architecture that can distribute tasks in parallel execution process infrastructure. Grid networks are used to solve computational problems large scale. They allow you to perform calculations with large volumes of data, divided into smaller parts, or to perform parallel computations much more than is possible on a single computer by dividing tasks among multiple processes.

 

Grid technology in Europe

At the meeting, European Commission Competitiveness Council of 28-29 May 2015 European science ministers discussed the issue of creating the European Research Area. It is noted that the European  scientific  cloud should be powerful enough to cover the needs and major research infrastructures in Europe, such as the Large Hadron Collider at CERN and the European Southern Observatory in Chile, as well as provide services to students and researchers.

During the Competitiveness Council, Member States called for an Open Science Strategy to set the framework conditions concerning open access to data, use of data and mining, common standards for interoperability. They also underlined the importance of appropriate infrastructures for the storage and management of big data in particular for a successful launch for a European open Science Cloud as part of the Digital Single Market Strategy. This "open science" can make the European Research Area and provide more effective with significant benefits to the scientific community, citizens, business and academia to create new jobs, stimulate the growth of research productivity and creativity and literacy.

European Commission program Horizon 2020 set out to combine all existing research infrastructure and scientists using the European e-infrastructure in a single digital scientific community.

 

Grid technologies in Ukraine

List of priority thematic areas of research and scientific and technological development for the period until 2015, approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine of 7 September 2011 g. N 942, Grid and cloud by - one of the major problems of physical and mathematical sciences and engineering for fundamental research research on the most important problems of scientific, technical, socio-economic, socio-political, human potential to ensure Ukraine's competitiveness and sustainable development of society and the state.

National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine adopted a comprehensive program of research "grid infrastructure and grid technologies for scientific and applied applications" and set a list of projects carried out by agencies National Academy of Science Ukraine in 2015.

According to the information society development strategy developed by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, one of its main tasks is to develop a modern information infrastructure that involves the creation and use of supercomputing systems, software and hardware, telecommunications networks and grid systems, cloud and other advanced technologies .

The implementation of such a strategy shall provide quality access to computing services, processing large volumes of diverse data in the areas of information, education, science and medicine. The introduction of the new program is essential both in terms of fundamental and applied science in Ukraine, and given the strategic goal of the state policy on European integration.

It is therefore necessary to continue the integration of Ukrainian and European information and research area and, above all, to solve the following problems:

- effective coordination of scientific basic and applied research that require high-performance computing and processing of large data sets;

- cooperation with international grid and cloud platforms, and the conditions for their integration into a single global research area;

- creating a virtual national center of expertise with digital science and providing data-processing services to national and international researchers and their associations;

- providing training and retraining of users  grid technologies.
